Magnetic Chain Couplings (Pack of 8)

The magnet lacks a bit of strength but for its size it’s brilliant. Just what I needed.

The ultimate Era 1 coupling! Love the way these fit into a NEM pocket!

I have a few Accurascale Chauldron waggons and some Sam’s Trains waggons. They all now carry these couplings as does my Hornby Locomotion.

Sadly Hornby have not seen fit to put NEM pockets on any of their Era 1 stock, as these are far better than the annoying plastic chains they supply.

Magnets kept coming loose from the sockets, also disconnecting while in motion.

Awkward to couple together initially, and chains are too long to look protypical when finally in a fitted formation. Definitely only worth having if you want to fit then in a permanently fixed formation.

A nice idea, but something that perhaps requires a little fine tuning in future.

I purchased these couplings specifically to replace the plastic "chains" supplied with the Hornby Rocket & other era 1 locos & wagons. The originals worked on the track but were a real pain if you wanted to remove the wagons for any reason.
These couplings were easy to glue to the underside of both locos & wagons using super glue & an accelerator spray. I am not a perfectionist as I am aware others may require a more realistic approach, but I found that by fixing these couplings a few millimetres from the end of the wagon it was not necessary to adjust the length of the chain supplied to achieve the spacing required between wagons. To me the small amount of slack moving as the train moves off & slows down is very satisfying.
One small problem, small in every sense of the word, one of the magnets fell out of its holder. Fortunately it attached itself to the axle rather than disappearing on the carpet! A tiny amount of super glue resolved the situation.

Very useful for pre 1850 rolling stock

I marvel at the detail in the construction of these items, I especially love the way the magnets align.
The ordering process was simple and efficient with extremely fast delivery.

I have been searching for a reasonable way to couple some 009 wagons semi-permanently, but still allow them to be separated occasionally. With some minor modification, these should work well. Very glad Accurascale offers these.

Excellent product

Excellent couplings. Perfect for Era 2/3 wagons. Wagons can easily be pulled apart, but the magnets are strong enough that they don't separate when being pulled in a rake. Really like the buffering effect when the loco comes to a stop. Then the tightening of the couplings wagon by wagon as the loco moves off again.

The magnetic couplings look the part however they were disappointing on two counts. Firstly I had to glue 2 of the magnets into their holders as they were loose. Secondly the chains are too long increasing the gap between wagons more than the couplings and when the wagons are stood dragging on the sleepers.
