Seen as very much the ‘missing link’ in the ‘Powering Britain’ range, the 16 ton mineral wagon is an essential addition to the Accurascale range to tell the story of coal traffic on the railways throughout the 20th century. The archetypal BR 16 ton all-steel non-hoppered mineral wagon proliferated across the United Kingdom’s railway network during the 1950s and 1960s and there was probably not a siding, freight yard or industrial railway system in the country that did not house at least an example or three of these vitally important, yet mundane railway vehicles.
  • Model Specification:
  • Die-cast metal chassis with plastic body. Weight of 37g (excluding coal load).
  • Scale length of 78mm over buffers, and 34.53mm wide.
  • Wheelbase of 36mm, allowing operation over a minimum radius of 371mm (1st radius set-track).
  • Separately fitted side doors, top doors and end doors.

Good models

I’m no expert in 16t minerals but these look the part and run well. I need to weather them as they were never pristine for long.

16ton mineral

The mineral wagons contain a wealth of fine detail. It seems that etched components have been used to create the fine details. The Dia 109 don`t have the cosmetic gusset / stanchions which connect the body to the solebar, whilst Dia 108 have these . However I am very dissapointed that these wagons can not be converted to EM or P4 gauge without major surgery. When Accurscale was launched you stated that the finescale society`s would be consulted to help with conversions. Clearly not in this case. When you launch a product please state if it is designed with the wider gauges in mind. I am not looking forward to converting 21 minerals. Brake gear and safety loops have to be removed and repositioned. Not easy . I appreciate most of your customers will be 00 gauge but it would be pleasing if modellers working in the finer scales are considered. The Mk 1 surburbans require major work to convert to P4. I hope this is not regarded as negative but of constructive criticism and I will continue to purchase models suitable for my era.

And another pack of 16t minerals

A very easy way to build a coal train with uniquely numbered wagons. Plenty of detail, with opportunity for lots of subtle variations across the wagons.
